Den vanligaste skalan under rätt lång tid är annars den pentatoniska, i vilken inga halva tonsteg finns (och där det också blir svårt att avgöra moll/dur, exempelvis).

Tankarna om "rena" halvtoner är iofs en ganska sen uppfattning... Det är väl (nu får någon musikhistoriker rätta om jag har fel, jag har bara läst musikteori...) först på 1700-talet som man börjar att tänka sig att dela in skalorna i 12 lika stora delar och skapa en "tempererad" stämning? I alla fall här i Europa... (Kineserna hade något redan tidigare, i slutet av 1500-talet).

Och så en brasklapp - jag har bara läst musikteori och kompositionslära, inte musikhistoria (annat än väldigt översiktligt). Antagligen finns det musikhistoriker här som kan (och förhoppningsvis också gör det) tillrättavisa mig [:)]

Hur fungerar detta stämningssystem? Går det att förklara? Jag funderar på om detta på något vis kan kopplas ihop med de blåtoner/kvartstoner som är vanliga i folkmusiken långt fram i våra dagar, och som är vanliga på tersen, sexten och sjunde tonen. En kvartston på tersen gör ju att visan/låten varken går i moll eller dur.

Har märkt att vissa inspelningar jag gjort tappat i princip all medeltidskänsla då jag använt gitarr och vanliga ackord i kompet. Trodde först att det var själva gitarrljudet som var orsaken, men nu inser jag att det är ackorden med sina terser som spökar.

I övrigt är jag inte bernhårt ortodox vad gäller medeltidsmusik, hör gärna ett tillskott i rytmen av till exempel darbouka (vars ursprung är keltiskt, inte arabiskt) för att få ett medryckande driv i framförandet. Dock måste jag säga att ni (Falsobordone) lyckas låta otroligt fullt med endast säckpipa och en kanttrumma!

Sedan kan - och skall! - man ju experimentera - det hela beror ju på vad man har för utgångspunkter i sitt musicerande. Vill man spela medeltida musik helt för dess egen skull står det alla fritt att tolka den hur som helst (det är ju detta de välkända party-medeltidsbanden, som Poeta Magica, Corvus Corax, In Extremo och allt vad de heter gör - jag kan garantera att ingen medeltidsmusiker skulle känna igen sig vidare mycket i deras tolkningar... de har andra, mera medryckande kvaliteter än det autentiskt efterforskade) men vill man åstadkomma ett historiskt återskapande och komma närmare hur det verkligen kan ha låtit, är det bra att hålla sig till vissa riktlinjer. Däribland ingår att försöka komma bort från vårt moderna ackord-tänkande och istället se ett komp på ett ackordinstrument snarare som en (eller flera) kompletterande stämmor. Sedan kan de fortfarande röra sig på ett sätt som LIKNAR det vi idag kallar "ackord", t.ex. med så kallade "vandrande kvinter" - i princip ett terslöst ackord som byts ut efter behag och följer melodin. Detta funkar ofta mycket bra, framför allt till enstämmiga melodier som Cantigas. Detta kan användas samtidigt som en bordun, även om det är en fast ton som inte flyttas. Denna kan förresten också förändras genom att läggas i kvinter, komma till, falla bort osv. Hemligheten tror jag är att inte se den medeltida musiken och dess kompmöjligheter som begränsade - vilket är mycket svårt när man lyssnar med blaserade 2000-talsöron - utan som musik med helt andra uttryckssätt och grundförutsättningar. Se där ett långt och krångligt svar på en kort och koncis fråga...

På äldre musik hör jag oftast sången kompas av en bordun, alternativt att melodin dubblas av ett eller flera instrument, men var det verkligen så all musik framfördes under medeltiden? Harpor, lutor, cittern och liknande instrument var ju vanliga redan då, och dessa är ju väldigt lätta att spela varierande ackord på tycker jag?
