"HOW YOU SHOULD MAKE CEMENT FOR MENDING STONES - CHAPTER CVI
There is a cement wich is good for mending stones: and this one is made of mastic, fresh wax, sifted pounded stone; and then all melted up thoroughly together on the fire. Take your broken stone, and warm it well; put some of this cement on it. It will last forever,in the wind; and in water if you were to mend sharpening or grinding wheels, or millstones, with it."

Och så glaslimmet, från samma sida:

"HOW TO MAKE CEMENT FOR MENDING DISHES OF GLASS - CHAPTER CVII
And there is a cement wich is good for mending glasses, or hourglasses, or any other fine dishes of Damascus or Majorcawich might be broken. To make this cement, take liquid varnish, a little white lead and verdigris. Put into them some of the same color as the glass: if it is blue, put in a little indigo; if it is green, let the verdigris predominate, and sic de singulis. And then work these ingredients up together very finely. Take the pieces of your broken dishes or goblets, and, even if they are in thousand fragments, fit them together, putting this cement on them thinly. Let it dry for a few months in the sun and wind; and you will find these dishes stronger, and more fit to stand water, where they are broken than where they are whole."

Jag läste om det i en gammal artikel, den som Micke nämnde tidigare i tråden, skriven av Bengt Skans, men det står ingenting om hur pass länge det ska ligga i det sura badet eller om det finns något sätt att avgöra om det har gått klart eller ej.

har jobbar dubbla skift sedan årskiftet känns det som. 4-timmars sömn i snitt tär lite på energin... men resten av mars blir förhoppningsvis rena semestern, bara ett heltidsjobb och inga extra projekt på ett par veckor så jag tänkte sätta mig ned och ta tag i allt skrivarbete som legat på hög sedan januari, redigering av två kurskompendium, 10 labbrapporter, lite projektbeskrivningar och lite annat. förhoppningsvis kan limrecepten sorteras i högnarna kurskompendium/annat och därmed bliva slutförda! hinner jag dessutom i veckan skaffa mig ett skrivbord så kommer det gå lekande lätt, slipper sitta hopkrupen framför datorskärmen på golvet!!!

How goat glue is made, and how it is tempered; and how many purposes it will serve. Chapter CVIIII
And there is a glue wich is known as leaf glue; this is made out of clippings of goats' muzzles, feet, sinews, and many clippings of skins. This glue is made in March or January, during those strong frosts or winds; and it is boiled with clear water until it is reduced to less than a half. The put it into certain flat dishes, like jelly molds or basins, straining it thoroughly. Let it stand over night. Then, in the morning, cut it with a knife into slices like bread; put it on at matto dry in the wind, out of the sunlight; and an ideal glue will result. This glue is used by painters, by saddlers, and by ever so many masters, as I shall show you later on. And it is a good glue for wood, and for many things. We shall discuss it thoroughly, showing what it may be used for, and how, for gessos, for tempering colors, making lutes, tarsias, fastening pieces of wood and foliage ornament together, tempering gessos, doing raised gessos; and it is goog for many things.

There is a glue used by workers in wood; this is made of cheese. After putting it to soak in water, work it over with a little quicklime, using a board with both hands. Put it between the boards; it joins them and fastens them together well. And let this suffice you for the making of various kinds of glue.

Det finns dessutom recept på hur man tillverkar lim för att laga sten (som tillexempel slipstenar) och hur man lagar glas (kanske något för den som tappat sin noppbägare i golvet...). Hör bara av er så kan jag skriva ner dem.

Har du fått fart på datorn ännu? Jag fick ett tokryck och har nu rensat ut hudrester (grissvål) och fiskskinn från frysen. Det vore kul att kanske hina prova ett medeltida recept (eller ens se hur de ser ut, jag har aldrig sett något).

Man tager lite färskost (jag antar att en klassisk "filmjölksost" fungerar bra) och kletar ihop med kalk. Sedan limmar man. Det blir hårt och cementaktigt, och används enligt Cennini för att limma ihop tavelramar. Jag kan lägga ut lite fler om nån är intresserad.

Beck är ett annat hett (ha ha) tips. Smält det, limma, låt torka. Det är vad jag vet det enda "medeltida 'lim'" som är vattenfast. Om någon känner till andra vattenfasta limrecept som använts under medeltiden, hade jag varit tacksam om de kunde lägga upp dem på forumet.

angående koktider, sägs det ofta i texterna: koka limmet så länge som du kokar en fisk! så hur genomkokt fisk åt man förr?
