De skriver så här:
"Till hund - och vargskinnspälsar som var speciellt vanliga i mellersta och norra Sverige har breda mönstervävda band använts s.k. "pälslister". Här beskrivs ett pälsband från Nås socken i Dalarna, Nordiska museet. Originalbandet är vävt någon gång under 1800-talet i naturfärgad ull, svart och vitt, och därefter färgat rött. Det enda sätt att färga rött på den tiden originalbandet vävdes var att färga med krapp eller koschenill." Och lite längre ned på sidan, de "rekommenderar dock vävning i vanlig vävstol på grund av bredd och varptäthet".

I trakterna runt Röros var det i slutet av 1800-talet relativt vanligt att väva dubbelvävar med fårsvart och naturvitt ullgarn och så färga hela väven röd efteråt. Valet av färger till pälsbanden kanske har samma orsak?

Man åkte då med häst och släde och som ytterplagg bor man en så kallad forbonde päls som oftast var av hundpäls men även vargpäls förekom. Forbonde resor existerar fortfarande men då mera i den bemärkelsen "nöjes" resa än nödvändigt ont.
