John Howe skriver att det finns en hel del referenser i "Swiss chronicles", men det är rätt många hundra sidor så han har inte hunnit leta upp någonting ännu. Han menar också att det inte är en turban (svept huvudbonad) utan en sydd mössa, som ser ut som en turban.

Sen turbanen, tja, den var faktiskt inte menad att användas tillsammans med den gruppen eller i nuläget, i några historiska sammanhang. Ville mest ha en sådan för att den är fräck, och trots det vill jag att den skall vara "historiskt korrekt"

I övrigt så pågår just nu en intressant diskussion om den tunna linjen mellan "art direction" och korrekt historiskhet på Company of St Georges medlemslista. Så långt jag har hängt med menar många att man kan hitta referenser på precis vad som helst, men att det viktigaste är att (om man är ett sällskap med den målsättningen) att göra en bra och trolig bild av hur det kan ha sett ut. Exemplet som alltid dyker upp är doublets (tröjor) utan ärmar, som bevisligen finns i historiska källmaterialet, men som inte alls verkar så vanligt som det blir när reenactors klär sig på evenemang. Som Gerry Embleton skriver ser det inte medeltida ut, utan som ett gäng Cowboys, och det är ju inte meningen. Man skulle kunna ställa sig samma fråga om turbaner: vilka bar dom, under vilka förutsättningar och i vilka länder och sammanhang? Är det viktigt att återskapa exakt den situationen? Är det vettigt att en hel grupp har dylika huvudbonader om det i den (kanske enstaka) källan man har bara representeras av 3% av personerna på bilden? Vad ska man göra om man har motstridiga uppgifter (som ofta är fallet)?

Här har man någonting att bita i tror jag, men de flesta grupper har inte kommit dit än eftersom de inte försöker återskapa en exakt tid, plats och gruppering (som Company of St George) utan mer samlar folk med intresse för t ex "medeltiden".

Når det gjelder utluking av "eksotiske" elementer pleier jeg å nekte å godta noe jeg ikke har sett minst 3 av, fra forskjellige böker og som ikke er konsekvent plassert på "skurker " eller "vismenn" eller "fra gamle dager". Funn godtar jeg langt lettere....

Joakim: Mm. Det med struthättor visste jag inte, varför bar man sina grejor på fel sätt och på mystiska sätt? Har det samma förklaring till att folk ibland har kepsen på fel håll idag och liknande?
I vilket fall som helst är det ingen struthätta på S:t George bilderna, åtminstone är det ingen struthätta som man "bara" vänt och snurrat.
